The Chameleon Multi-Activity Unit (MAU), conceptualized by Celtic Design Consultants Ltd., marks a significant milestone in the commercialization of their innovative vessel designs. Developed in collaboration with OOS Energy B.V., an affiliate of Holding OOS International Group, this game-changing vessel is set to redefine the standards of efficiency and versatility in the industry.
Celtic Design Consultants Ltd. provided the concept design for the MAUs, showcasing their expertise in creating vessels that excel in multiple offshore operations. The MAU is a state-of-the-art, self-propelled, dynamically positioned jack-up unit, designed to perform a variety of services with unmatched efficiency. Equipped with a high efficiency Plug & Abandonment (P&A) package, the unit is capable of well intervention, workover tasks, and complex drilling operations, all while enabling simultaneous operations across multiple wells, this significantly enhancing productivity.
In addition to its P&A capabilities, the MAU features two 1,200MT cranes, lifting capacity can be increased, and expansive accommodation facilities, allowing it to undertake heavy-lift operations, such as platform removals in the Southern North Sea and other regions with water depths up to 122+ meters (400+feet). The design maximizes operational capabilities while maintaining a compact and efficient size.
A key strength of the Chameleon MAU lies in its ability to perform simultaneous operations (SIMOPS), combining P&A tasks with heavy lifting of up to 2,400 tons without the need for additional marine spreads or multiple vessel mobilizations. This approach not only enhances operational efficiency but also significantly reduces costs.
This project represents a major step forward for Celtic Design Consultants Ltd. as they continue to commercialize their vessel designs, offering ground-breaking solutions to the P&A, decommissioning, and wind installation markets. As discussions with potential clients continue, the industry is already recognizing the transformative impact of these versatile and highly efficient units.
In addition, with this unit can transport and offload removed structures without the support of other vessels or heavy lift equipment. Its design and lifting capability provide an immense efficiency that can also be used in the offshore wind energy sector for installation of monopiles, jackets and turbines.
The ground-breaking concept design previously held by OOS has now become available for Celtic Design Consultants to market. Due to the lapse of the exclusivity agreement, this innovative design is open for exploration and deployment.
CDC is excited to present this cutting-edge solution, which offers unmatched potential in marine design and offshore operations. We are poised to leverage this opportunity to drive forward our mission of delivering transformative, high-performance designs to the industry.
The Chameleon MAU is also poised to serve a wide range of clients in the Oil & Gas Sector undertaking Wellhead Work Overs, Plug & Abandonment P&A, Air Diving, ROV Inspection & Maintenance Construction Support, Mattress Installation, Subsea Cable Installation & Repair.
CDC Goliath Heron and The Heron, are an evolution of the original Chameleon design, being specifically designed to meet the growing and dynamic needs of the renewables wind energy sector. Recognizing the industry’s demand for a more tailored and robust vessel, the Goliath embodies several key innovations:
Key Benefits:
Additionally, the Heron is equipped with the capacity to carry a grouting unit, complete with integrated cement and fluid tanks, and associated pumps built into the hull. This capability enhances its operational flexibility in wind farm installations. The vessel can also accommodate a ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) for thorough inspections of seabed scour areas, further elevating its inspection and maintenance capabilities.
In short, the Heron is a pioneering solution that blends cutting-edge design with practical innovation, setting a new benchmark for efficiency and sustainability in the wind energy industry.
The Goliath Heron, the larger and more powerful sibling of the Heron, was developed as a natural progression to meet the demands of the ever-growing offshore wind industry. As turbine generation capacity continues to increase, so do the size and weight of the components, making the Goliath Heron a critical asset for the next generation of offshore projects.
With its significantly enhanced size and lifting capacity, the Goliath Heron is uniquely suited not only for turbine installations but also for the complex installation of subsea towers and transition pieces. Its robust engineering allows it to handle the heaviest and most demanding offshore operations with ease.
Just like its predecessor, the Goliath Heron is equipped with integrated cement and fluid tanks, along with advanced pumping systems, ensuring efficient handling of grouting and other essential construction materials. Additionally, it can accommodate a ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) for detailed underwater inspections, enhancing its versatility in both installation and maintenance tasks.
The Goliath Heron is designed to meet the future needs of the offshore wind industry, providing unmatched capacity, efficiency, and flexibility for larger-scale projects, ensuring smooth operations from seabed to turbine. It stands as a symbol of cutting-edge innovation and a commitment to driving the offshore wind sector forward.
CDC have designs for 4 and 6 leg MOPUs (Mobile Offshore Production Units) These can be used for a variety of purposes from production units for marginal fields with and offloading facility for tankers.
Another emerging interest in the CDC MOPUs is for the Carbon storage market. The MOPU can be placed over depleted oil wells and act as a storage and pumping facility to receive vessels and take onboard the Carbon cargo and pump it into the wells. There is ample storage to accept large cargoes so that tankers do not have to wait for the cargo to be pumped into the well before departure.
The MOPUs can be configured to any specific requirement and to save cost, if a MOPU is going to be on a well for an extended period, the jacking systems can be removed for use on other MOPUs. When a MOPU requires moving once a well is at capacity the jacking systems are reinstalled and the MOPU moved to a new site.
